A Summary of the Value Added with an iZ Systems Corporate Standard Compressed Air Efficiency Management System
- The Beckhoff processor is preferred over others because it easier to establish communication with internal networks as well as the compressors. In fact, Beckhoff has become the global standard for remote analog components because of its ease of expansion. Corporate IT departments are typically comfortable programming and supporting the Beckhoff technology which creates savings in support costs for the organization as a whole.
- The mapping and screen writing for a corporate standard SCADA can be completed by iZ Systems and will only have to be done once. These interface screens will interface directly with any existing MIS package such as Wonderware or Intellution for data collection and display. IZ will resolve the scope of supply issues which will allow the implementation process to be simplified for each plant after the first one. This creates savings in engineering and programming costs.
- The IZ automation system has the ability to manage up to three separate systems in terms of pressure and automation protocols to assure that the total system remains at peak efficiency going forward. Often, this requires rotating base load compressors so that the primary trim units such as a VSD compressor remains in the trim position as demand varies in the plant. This generates savings in energy costs in the non-blow air systems which can be significant particularly with centrifugal or booster systems.
- The IZ system can be supported on line via any secure internet connection which eliminates the cost of service visits for trouble shooting, software upgrades, and improvements. This also means that the system will remain at peak efficiency as the plant’s needs change in the future.The IZ system will alert to efficiency changes and allow us to intervene if necessary to prevent a loss of energy savings. Long term, this creates energy savings by insuring peak efficiency in the each compressed air system.
- IZ has already resolved the interface requirements to extract data from virtually all brands and types of compressor controllers for trending. In some cases additional costs are required due to the hardware requirements of the compressor controller for interfacing, the benefit of having access to each compressor’s operating condition is very significant. Trending this operational data generates maintenance and energy savings by maintaining peak compressor efficiency without spending unnecessary maintenance dollars.
An additional feature unavailable in other systems are the IZ system pre-programmed modules which can be added in the future to control other facility systems, such as, chillers, pumps, fans, etc. The additional hardware requirement for each module is determined by the needs of the individual process equipment being controlled but is minimal such as a small panel to isolate the machine’s circuits and any analog I/O or instrumentation required. This capability will generate energy savings in managing other facility equipment while minimizing capital costs and the need to become familiar with additional software systems.
